Infrared Sauna and Mineral Shower Birmingham

Infrared sauna treatment

Welcome to infrared sauna treatments at Cryotherapy Centre, based in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. Unlike a traditional steam sauna, our infrared sauna uses gentle far infrared light to warm the body directly, rather than heating the air around you. Every session is followed by a mineral shower, a pairing you won’t find at most Birmingham wellness studios, so you leave feeling genuinely restored. Curious exactly how it works? We’ve answered that in full in our FAQs below.

Infrared Shower Birmingham

What is an Infrared Sauna?

Our infrared sauna operates differently from traditional saunas. Rather than heating the air, it uses infrared light to directly warm the body. Infrared waves penetrate deeper into the skin, targeting muscles and tissues for an immersive experience that doesn’t require intense heat. This allows for a comfortable, soothing session that can produce a more effective detoxifying and relaxing effect without the need to endure extremely high temperatures.

What to Expect During Your Session

When you arrive at our Jewellery Quarter clinic, our friendly team will talk you through the process and answer any questions before you begin. Your infrared sauna session typically lasts between 30 and 45 minutes, though we’re happy to tailor this to a shorter session if that suits you better. Afterwards, step straight into the mineral shower to cleanse, cool and revitalise, enjoying the skin-nourishing benefits of the mineral-enriched water.

Infrared Sauna FAQs

What is an infrared sauna and how does it work?

Our infrared sauna works differently from a traditional sauna. Rather than heating the air around you, it uses far-infrared light to warm the body directly, with the waves penetrating gently into the skin to target muscles and tissues. There’s no need to endure intense heat: the result is a comfortable, soothing session that supports detoxification and relaxation, all without the extremely high temperatures of a traditional steam or dry sauna. It pairs especially well with a Full Body Cryotherapy session for anyone looking to recover faster.

What are the benefits of an infrared sauna?

There’s a lot our clients love about the infrared sauna at Cryotherapy Centre. Detox and circulation support: the gentle heat encourages a detoxifying sweat, while the mineral shower afterwards helps rinse away toxins and gives circulation a boost. Skin and cellulite appearance: many clients pair their sauna sessions with our Pressotherapy treatment for extra contouring support, and the mineral shower alone leaves skin feeling softer and more hydrated. Muscle relaxation and pain relief: the radiant warmth eases tension and brings welcome relief from everyday aches. Overall wellness and recovery: plenty of our regulars build the infrared sauna into a wider routine alongside Full Body Cryotherapy or a Sports Massage, and tell us they feel lighter and more energised afterwards. Everyone responds differently, so our team will always talk through your goals first.

Is infrared heat safe?

Yes. Infrared heat is completely safe and widely used in therapeutic settings. Unlike UV rays, infrared light doesn’t damage the skin or increase the risk of skin cancer, working on the same gentle principle as natural sunlight but without the harmful radiation. Our infrared sauna is set up to be comfortable and safe for every visit, and our staff are always happy to adjust the settings to suit you.

How often can I use the infrared sauna?

For most people, 1–2 sessions a week are a good place to start. Some clients choose to increase this depending on their wellness goals, and regular visitors often find they can safely use the sauna up to 3–4 times a week. As always, it’s best to listen to your body and adjust based on how you feel.

What should I wear and what should I bring to my session?

We recommend light, breathable clothing or swimwear, and many clients like to bring a towel for extra comfort. It’s best to leave jewellery and heavy clothing at home. You don’t need to bring anything specific, as we provide towels, mineral water and other essentials to keep you hydrated before and after your session. That said, if you’d rather bring your own skincare or a change of clothes, you’re very welcome to.

How does an infrared sauna differ from a traditional sauna?

Traditional saunas heat the air, which in turn heats the body, usually reaching temperatures of 70°C or higher. Infrared sauna treatments work differently: infrared light heats the body directly, without excessively warming the surrounding air (around 55 degrees). This allows for a gentler experience while still delivering a deep, detoxifying sweat.

Can anyone use the infrared sauna?

Infrared saunas are generally safe for most people. However, if you have certain health conditions such as cardiovascular issues, are pregnant, or currently have a fever, we’d recommend speaking with a healthcare professional first. Our trained team is always on hand to talk through any concerns and make sure your visit is safe and enjoyable.

What are the benefits of following up with a mineral shower?

The mineral shower helps rinse away toxins and sweat, supporting the detoxification process. The mineral-enriched water hydrates and revitalises the skin, leaving it softer and refreshed, while the cooling rinse stimulates circulation and helps close pores, balancing the skin and body after the warmth of the sauna.

What other services do you offer at the Cryotherapy Centre?

Alongside infrared sauna treatments, we offer a wide range of advanced and holistic therapies at our Birmingham clinic. Full Body Cryotherapy delivers cold therapy for recovery, pain relief and an energy boost, while Pressotherapy supports cellulite reduction, circulation and body contouring. Our Lymphatic Drainage therapy helps with detox, swelling and immune function, and Reflexology targets pressure points to improve energy flow and ease stress. Cupping Therapy releases muscle tension through traditional suction techniques, and our Massage treatments range from deep tissue to relaxing aromatherapy, tailored to you. For extra recovery support, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) uses pure oxygen in a pressurised chamber to accelerate healing; our Pelvic Power Chair offers 7 Tesla HIFEM technology for pelvic floor strength; and Sports Massage aids muscle recovery and performance.
